ChemInform Abstract: Reaction of Isomeric Olefins of the Pimarane Series with Paraformaldehyde on Askanite‐Bentonite Resin.

Abstract

Reaction of methyl pimarate (VI) and methyl isopimarate (I) with paraformaldehyde catalyzed by askanite-bentonite resin is shown to proceed as addition of two formaldehyde molecules affording a mixture of tetrahydropyran-or tetrahydrofuran-fused pimarates.
