“…At 218 K, a point at which qualitative changes to the spectrum are complete, δ( 113 Cd) appears at -16.9 ppm; what remains soluble at 198 K shows a further shift to -20.9 ppm. At 218 K the 1 H and 13 C NMR spectra now show a sharp signal associated with the methyl groups on the metal, with coupling constants ( 1 J( 113,111 CdC) ) 578, 534 Hz; 2 J(CdH) ) 49.4 Hz, unresolved) which differ from data for uncomplexed Me 2 Cd ( 1 J( 113,111 CdC) ) 536, 512 Hz; 2 J(CdH) ) 50.0 Hz, unresolved). 14 However, the spectra still do not distinguish the two distinct Me 2 Cd environments evident in the solid state.…”

“…Compound 2 was insufficiently soluble in solvents such as toluene to allow low-temperature spectra to be recorded and to make direct comparisons with the spectra of 1. In CDCl 3 solution at room temperature the NMR spectra of 2 are simple and contain only single environments for the four CdCH 3 units in each of the 1 H, 13 C, and 113 Cd NMR spectra, though in all cases the lines are broad and no 1 J(CdC) or 2 J(CdH) couplings were discernible. There is approximate C 2 symmetry about an axis which runs through the centers of the two six-membered Cd 2 N 4 rings, but there must also be additional flexibility within the conformations of the two five-membered Cd 2 N 3 faces of the polygon to render all the metal atoms equivalent.…”
