Abstract: Coupling reaction of the aromatic sulfenyl chlorides (II) with the diazopyruvate (III) followed by cyclization with the mercaptomethylazetidinone (I) yields the isocephamcarboxylates (IV) which are dehydrated and deprotected to give the isocephemcarboxylic acids (VI).
