ChemInform Abstract: Synthesis of Some 1,8‐Naphthalic Anhydride Derivatives as Dyes for Polymeric Materials.

Abstract: Synthesis of Some 1,8-Naphthalic Anhydride Derivatives as Dyes for Polymeric Materials.-New phthalimide derivatives (III) and (V) containing allyl residues as potentially polymerizing groups are synthesized starting from naphthalic anhydride (I). Their absorption and fluorescent properties and the possibilities for structural coloring of polymers are investigated. -(GRABTCHEV, I.; PHILIPOVA, T.; Indian J. Chem., Sect. B: Org. Chem.

“…The luminescent properties of 1,8‐naphthalimides depend mainly on the polarization of the molecule due to the donor–acceptor interaction between the substituent in position C4 and the carbonyl groups in the imide part of the molecule . The relation between the structure of 1,8‐naphthalimides and their emission properties is known in considerable detail . Because of the wide properties tunability the 1,8‐naphthalimide luminophores are suitable for use (i) in the field of electronics and laser techniques, (ii) as dichroic dyes in liquid‐crystalline systems of the host–guest type, or (iii) as sensing materials and markers in medicine .…”
