Abstract

Cyclocondensation of the benzenesulfonylacetonitrile (I) with the cinnamonitriles (II) in the presence of sodium methoxide (III) yields the 3,4‐dihydropyridines (IV) which are dehydrogenated upon treatment with potassium permanganate, forming the pyridines (V).
