ChemInform Abstract: UV‐PHOTOEMISSION STUDY OF THE ENERGY BANDS IN SOLID CESIUM‐GOLD (CSAU)

Abstract: Anhand neuer Messungen der Energieverteilung der Photoelektronen für Photonenenergien von 21,2 eV (HeI) und 40,8 eV (Hell) wird die Bandstruktur von CsAu bestimmt.

“…We believe the three lat,ter systems t o be ionic at stoichiometry with the anion achieving a closed-shell configuration. CsAu is also ionic at x,, = 0.5, but with the difference that the anion is Au- (Overhof, Fischer, Vulli and Hensel 1976) which is not a closed shell, but rather an inert s shell (as found in many compounds in period 6, such as Pb2+12-). We believe this significant difference in valence structure, which now allows resonant bonding (Lucovsky and White 1973), to be responsible for the difference in the experimental diamagnetic susceptibility between this system and CsSb (Freyland and Steinleitner 1976), and not the possibility of sp3 hybridization in Cs,Sb.…”
