Abstract: Die Chemotherapie der Streptokokken-und Staphylokokkenerkrankungen ist, trotzdem mit den verschiedensten Präparaten, auf die nicht eingegangen werden soll, immer einmal wieder schöne Einzelerfolge erzielt werden, keineswegs in das Stadium der Sicherheit getreten, wie es für diese Krankheiten mit oft ernster Prognose so dringend erwünscht wäre. “…Farbenindustrie chemical company, along with the chemists Fritz Mietzsch and Josef Klarer, discovered the antibacterial effect of Prontosil, the first sulfonamide preparation, while performing experiments on animals. Apparently, in order to secure marketing opportunities, they did not publish their discovery until it was tested on humans in 1935 (Domagk 1935;Klee and Römer 1935;Schreus 1935). Domagk received the Nobel Prize in medicine in 1939 for this breakthrough.…”
