Chilaiditi syndrome caused by Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome: multidetector CT findings

Abstract: Chilaiditi syndrome is a condition in which the colon or small intestine is interposed temporarily or permanently between the liver and the diaphragm. Usually, it is an asymptomatic and incidental radiographic finding, but it may be a potential source of abdominal problems, ranging from intermittent mild abdominal pain to acute intestinal obstruction. We report multidetector computed tomographic findings of a case of Chilaiditi syndrome presenting as small bowel obstruction due to hepatodiaphragmatic interposi… Show more

“…Gastrointestinal ganglioneuromatosis is the predominant etiology of gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with MEN2B [1]. Chilaiditi sign is an incidental radiographic finding of a usually asymptomatic condition in which a part of intestine is located between the liver and diaphragm; however, the term “Chilaiditi syndrome” is used for symptomatic hepatodiaphragmatic interposition [2]. We detected Chilaiditi sign on chest radiograph and thoracoabdominal CT of our patient with MEN2B.…”

“…More than 90% of cases of uterine cervicitis associated with chlamydia infection are asymptomatic, though when left untreated can lead to endometritis and pelviperitonitis, with the final result perihepatitis [5]. The most susceptible age for FHCS is approximately 20 years, though cases of elderly patients with FHCS caused by reactivation of chlamydia have been reported [6]. A diagnosis of FHCS is made following detection of perihepatitis or fibrous adhesion between the abdominal wall and liver surface, so-called 'violin string sign', in laparoscopy or surgery findings.…”
