Abstract: BOOK REVIEWS calcium in the hyperexcitable state of alcohol with drawal has suggestedthat calcium channel blockers may be beneficial in modifying withdrawal phenomena, and possibly even in preventing the development of physical dependence; this clearly needs further research. The book has a number of useful chapers but there is some unnecessary repetition and perhaps some of the chapters would be better combined.
