El litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) en México, ha tenido un incremento significativo en plantaciones en las últimas dos décadas, en varios casos se estableció en regiones cálidas, donde presenta marcada alternancia de producción. El objetivo fue evaluar la floración y fructificación de litchi, en huertas con diferentes condiciones agroecológicas y manejo, en las regiones centro y norte del estado de Veracruz en el año 2010. Se seleccionaron seis huertas contrastantes, cinco con el cv Mauritius y una con ‘Brewster’, y en cada una se colocaron termómetros de máximas y mínimas para el registro de temperaturas. Para dar seguimiento a la longitud de brotes, inflorescencias, amarre de frutos y frutos cosechados, se marcaron cuatro brotes por punto cardinal, en 10 árboles por huerta. Se contabilizaron los brotes florales y vegetativos por m2 de copa, en la parte media del árbol. Se realizó un análisis físico-químico del suelo, en cada huerta. Para conocer el manejo, se aplicó un cuestionario a los productores. La altitud de las huertas estuvo entre 7 y 732 m, las temperaturas mínimas variaron de 13.5 a 18.1 oC, lo que influyó en el respuesta en floración, donde destacaron las huertas de Tuxpan 71.63% y Yecuatla con 66.28%. La fructificación y rendimiento presentó variación acorde al cultivar, temperaturas y prácticas de manejo; para ‘Mauritius’, las huertas sobresalientes fueron Tuxpan con 7.4 t ha-1 y Yecuatla con 3.6 t ha-1. Para ‘Brewster’ el rendimiento fue de 4.1 t ha-1, en la huerta Tolome.

The narrow genetic diversity and short market availability of litchi (Litchi chinesis Sonn.) are the main constrains for its cultivation more profitable in Indian sub-continent. Late season litchi cultivars in subtropical and tropical India are prone to fruit cracking and diseases susceptibility. Seven promising selections and four late season commercial cultivars viz; CHES-1, CHES-2, CHES -3, CHL-5. CHL-7, Lal Bombaiya, Late Bedana, Purbi, Selection -3-7, Selection 8-1 and Swarna Roopa were evaluated during 2014-15 at ICAR-RCER Ranchi, based on physico-chemical characters, cracking habit and diseases susceptibility. The results revealed that the cultivars Purbi, Lal Bombaiya and Late Bedana were cracking resistant. The maximum fruit weight was found in the cultivars Lal Bombaiya (22.0 g ) being comparable with Late Bedana (21.2 g) and CHES-2 (21.0 g). The cultivars Lal Bombaiya and CHES –2 had the highest aril weight of 19.44 g and 17.66 g, respectably. The maximum TSS of 22.2 0B was found in CHES-1 both in Jharkhand and Bihar. Late Bedana cultivar had high sugar acid ratio (73.52) with pomegranate flavor and popular for local market. Litchi fruit borer mainly attacked Lal Bombaiya and CHES-2 at early stage whereas the cultivars Purbi and Swarna Roopa were affected (3-6% bunch) by litchi stink bug (Tessaratoma javanica) at late harvest season. From the present study, it was concluded that CHES-1, Lal Bombaiya, Purbi and Late Bedana were promising late season cultivars for commercial cultivation with effective management of litchi fruit borer and stink bug.

BackgroundLitchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) is an economically important evergreen fruit tree widely cultivated in subtropical areas. Low temperature is absolutely required for floral induction of litchi, but its molecular mechanism is not fully understood. Leaves of litchi played a key role during floral induction and could be the site of low temperature perception. Therefore, leaves were treated under different temperature (15 °C/25 °C), and high-throughput RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) performed with leaf samples for the de novo assembly and digital gene expression (DGE) profiling analyses to investigate low temperature-induced gene expression changes.Results83,107 RNA-Seq unigenes were de novo assembled with a mean length of 1221 bp and approximately 61% of these unigenes (50,345) were annotated against public protein databases. Differentially-expressed genes (DEGs) under low temperature treatment in comparison with the control group were the main focus of our study. Hierarchical clustering analysis arranged 2755 DEGs into eight groups with three significant expression clusters (p-value ≤ 0.05) during floral induction. With the increasing contents of sugars and starch, the expression of genes involved in metabolism of sugars increased dramatically after low temperature induction. One FT gene (Unigene0025396, LcFT1) which produces a protein called ‘florigen’ was also detected among DEGs of litchi. LcFT1 exhibited an apparent specific tissue and its expression was highly increased after low temperature induction, GUS staining results also showed GUS activity driven by LcFT1 gene promoter can be induced by low temperature, which indicated LcFT1 probably played a pivotal role in the floral induction of litchi under low temperature.ConclusionsOur study provides a global survey of transcriptomes to better understand the molecular mechanisms underlying changes of leaves in response to low temperature induction in litchi.
