Chinese Angelica Polysaccharide (CAP) Alleviates LPS-Induced Inflammation and Apoptosis by Down-Regulating COX-1 in PC12 Cells

Abstract: Background/Aims: Chinese angelica polysaccharide (CAP) is the main effective ingredient of angelica sinensis and exerts anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects on many diseases. This study aimed to explore the pharmacological potential of CAP on spinal cord injury (SCI). Methods: PC12 cells were pretreated by CAP and were subjected to LPS. Transfection was performed to alter the expression of COX-1. Cell viability and apoptotic cell rate were measured by CCK-8 and flow cytometry respectively. qRT-PCR and … Show more

“…For example, resveratrol alleviates brain damages caused by hypoxia-ischemia in the neonatal rat [5]. Among all these herb medicine, angelica polysaccharide (AP) brings amount of impact on treating injuries induced by different stimulus as AP exhibits multiple biological functions [6,7]. For instance, AP plays important roles in anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory effects in LPS-evoked excessive inflammation and apoptosis process in PC12 cells [6].…”

For instance, AP plays important roles in anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory effects in LPS-evoked excessive inflammation and apoptosis process in PC12 cells [6]. Importantly, AP reveals potential functions in protecting rat cardiomyocytes H9c2 cells from hypoxia-stimulated inflammatory injury via regulating miR-22 [8].…”

“…Angelica sinensis polysaccharide (ASP), which is extracted with water as the initial extraction solvent, consists of xylose, galactose, glucose, arabinose, rhamnose, fructose, and glucuronic acid [7][8][9]. Some studies have reported that ASP exhibits gastrointestinal protective effects, immunomodulatory effects [10], antitumor activity [11,12], and anti-inflammatory activity [13]. Furthermore, one study has shown the capacity of ASP to protect chondrocytes from H 2 O 2 -induced apoptosis via its antioxidant effects [14].…”

“…Angelica sinensis is a perennial Umbelliferae herb and is broadly used as a traditional Chinese herbal medicine or food in Asian countries, such as China, Japan, and Korea [3]. Angelica polysaccharide (AP), one of the active components of Angelica sinensis, plays an important role in enhancing immunity and has antivirus, antitumor, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiapoptosis activities [4][5][6][7]. Previous studies have indicated that AP may alleviate LPS-induced inflammation and apoptosis in PC12 cells by inhibiting COX-1 expression [5].…”
