SnMe 3 ) 2 ) reacted with PtCl 2 (cod) (cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) to yield a mixture of macrocyclic diplatinum complex composed of two Tröger's base ligands and two Pt(cod) units ( 1) and oligomers of the À C 6 H 3 À C 3 N 2 H 6 À C 6 H 3 À Pt(cod)-units (2). Heating a toluene solution of isolated complex 1 and excess PPh 3 caused reductive elimination of a cyclic dimer of Tröger's base. The product is obtained in a diastereoselective manner. 1 H NMR and DFT studies suggested the molecular structure having the Tröger's base units with smaller arylene rings (ϕ = 65-66°) than that reported for dimethyl Tröger's base (ϕ = 103°).
