“…The pH value was adjusted before sterilization to pH 3.0-10.0 (at intervals of 0.5 pH units) in R2A broth using appropriate biological buffers. The temperature range for growth was determined on R2A plates by incubating the cultures at 4-45 °C (4,10,15,20,25,28,30,37,40,42 and 45 °C) for 3 days and at 4 °C for at least 14 days. The following phenotypic tests were performed according to standard methods [19]: catalase and oxidase activities; nitrate reduction; and hydrolysis of starch, carboxymethyl cellulose, gelatin, Tween 20, Tween 40 and Tween 80.…”

“…The genus Chitinimonas was first isolated from a shrimp-farming pond and proposed to represent a distinct genus within the family Burkholderiaceae with the unique ability to degrade chitin [9]. Currently, seven species have been recognized within the genus Chitinimonas : Chitinimonas taiwanensis [9], Chitinimonas koreensis [10], Chitinimonas viridis [11], Chitinimonas prasina [12], Chitinimonas naiadis [13], Chitinimonas lacunae [14] and Chitinimonas arctica [15]. The genus Chitinivorax was first isolated from a freshwater lake; only one species has been recognized within the genus Chitinivorax , namely Chitinivorax tropicus [16].…”
