Chitosan and Agaricus brasiliensis Polysaccharides Films: A Preliminary Study

Abstract: The known biotechnological properties of chitosan and the recent biological activities attributed to polysaccharides from Agaricus brasiliensis have been of interest to obtain films constituted by these two polymers. The glucans obtained from the mushroom inhibited about 96.5% of the ferrous ion, besides not promoting a significant increase of lactate dehydrogenase enzyme (LDH), which indicates that the polysaccharide is able to inhibit the production of radical species and also presents low cytotoxicity to th… Show more

“…In the past few decades, some studies have proved the biological characteristics of the chemical components in this mushroom's fruiting body, such as anti-tumor, hypolipidemic, anti-herpetic and immunomodulatory properties [6][7][8]. These properties are mainly due to the existence of the β (1→6) and α (1→4) polysaccharide configuration [9,10].…”

“…6) configurations, mainly. [16][17][18][19] In addition, extracts from Agaricus blazei Murill have shown excellent immunomodulatory and antioxidant activities, which may suggest its potential wound healing activity. 20,21 The traditional use of Agaricus blazei Murill is mainly based as an adjuvant in cancer chemotherapy.…”

“…The biological activities of this species have been attributed to the presence of β‐glucans, free or associated with protein fractions. Such polymers can present glycosidic bonds in the α (1 → 4) or β (1 → 6) configurations, mainly 16–19 . In addition, extracts from Agaricus blazei Murill have shown excellent immunomodulatory and antioxidant activities, which may suggest its potential wound healing activity 20,21 …”
