Chitosan Oleate Coated Poly Lactic-Glycolic Acid (PLGA) Nanoparticles versus Chitosan Oleate Self-Assembled Polymeric Micelles, Loaded with Resveratrol

Abstract: Chitosan oleate (CS-OA), a chitosan salt with amphiphilic properties, has demonstrated the ability to self-assemble in aqueous environment to give polymeric micelles useful to load poorly soluble drugs. More recently, CS-OA was proposed to stabilize nanoemulsions during the preparation by emulsification and solvent evaporation of poly lactic-glycolic acid (PLGA) nanoparticles (NPs) loaded with curcumin. Positive mucoadhesive behavior and internalization properties were demonstrated for these NPs attributable t… Show more

“…Miele et al [ 242 ], chemically modified chitosan with OA to form the resveratrol-loaded, amphiphilic chitosan: OA micelles sized 289 nm. Then, the micelles were coated with PLGA slightly decreasing their size (273 nm), but significantly improving their uniformity, the EE of the molecule and its thermal stability.…”

“…CS NPs have been used for loading insulin and also applied in diabetes therapy [ 28 ]. Moreover, several food bioactive ingredients have been encapsulated in CS NPs, including curcumin [ 29 ], flavonoids [ 30 ], lutein [ 31 ], polyphenols [ 32 ], resveratrol [ 33 ], and vitamins (B9, B12, and C) [ 34 ]. Fish oils are rich in ω-3 PUFAs, which are highly prone to oxidation due to their higher content of unsaturated fatty acid undergoing lipid oxidation.…”

“…Further, when a following thermal event overlaps any stages of a preceding thermal event, it is not easy to assess each event qualitatively or quantitatively. Therefore, in many studies of characterizing PLGA-based micro-/nano-particles through TG experiments, information on residual solvents was not thoroughly discussed [8][9][10][11]. To identify and quantify gas byproducts, TG should be combined with the so-called evolved gas analysis (EGA).…”
