Abstract: K 2P potassium channels regulate cellular excitability using their selectivity filter (C-type) gate. C-type gating mechanisms, best characterized in homotetrameric potassium channels, remain controversial and are attributed to pinching, dilation, or subtle structural changes of the selectivity filter.
