“…We used the Swedish Prescribed Drug Register to evaluate multiple use of medications occurring among the entire Swedish population from 2006 to 2014. This register was created on 1st July 2005 and includes data on all prescribed drugs dispensed at pharmacies in Sweden (Ji et al, 2018;Huang et al, 2019). The rate of missing patient identity data is estimated to be lower than 0.3% (Wettermark et al, 2007).…”

“…Of considerable interest may be population-based studies investigating potential association between the Dukoral ® vaccine and gastrointestinal disorders involving mucosal inflammation. In a very recent study of patients who were diagnosed with colorectal cancer from July 2005 through December 2012 in Sweden, it was revealed that those who had previously received Dukoral ® had a significantly reduced risk of death from colorectal cancer (CRC) [ 89 ]. Although the underlying mechanism is not clear at this point, the authors speculated that CTB might be associated with a risk reduction of CRC [ 89 ].…”

This observation warrants a comprehensive investigation on this subject.…”

“…Cholera vaccine might be repositioned (drug repurposing) and might be used as adjuvant therapy in patients with prostate cancer. Our previous study found that post-diagnostic use of cholera vaccine (including killed Vibrio cholerae O1 whole cells and recombinant CTB) can improve the prognosis in patients with colorectal cancer, which suggests that cholera toxin might have an antineoplastic effect 7 13 . In this study, we aimed to explore whether post-diagnostic use of cholera vaccine might be associated with a reduced mortality rate in patients diagnosed with prostate cancer.…”
