Choleretic and cholagogic effects of anti-cholelithiatic plants

Abstract: A large number of people suffer from gall stone worldwide and this problem is now being increased significantly due to the malnutrition, changes in living style, lack of exercise and conditions i.e. industrialization. Medicinal plants are used from centuries due to their cultural acceptability, efficacy, safety and fewer side effects as compared to modern synthetic medicines. “…In previous studies, caffeic acid 71 , catechin 72 , curcumin, rutin 73 , diosmin 74 , quercetin 75,76 , and resveratrol 77 prevented ethylene glycol-induced calcium oxalate crystallisation in rats, but the mechanistic insights underlying these effects were barely explained. The anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, ACE-inhibitory, and diuretic activities of polyphenols (flavonoids) contribute to calcium oxalate calculi prevention 78 .…”

“…Neutron activation was used for elemental characterization of medicinal plants of Romania [15]. The concentrations of macro, micro elements, phytochemicals and amino acids of medicinal plants of particular areas were determined by various scientists [16][17][18]. So keeping in view the importance of trace elements and phytochemical in medicinal plants the following study was designed.…”
