Choline peroxydisulfate oxidizing Bio-TSIL: triple role player in the one-pot synthesis of Betti bases and gem-bisamides from aryl alcohols under solvent-free conditions

Abstract: ARTICLE This journal isOne pot, multicomponent solvent free synthesis of Betti bases (amidoalkyl naphthols) and gem-bisamides directly from alcohol is proposed by an eco-friendly approach using new environmentally benign biodegradable oxidizing task specific ionic liquid (bio-TSIL), Choline peroxydisulfate monohydrate (ChPS) 1. Choline bisulphate (ChBS) 2 reduced species is generated in situ from 1, which catalyses formation of desired products in shorter reaction time, with good to excellent yields. This bio-… Show more

“…The following peaks were observed in the FT-IR spectrum of GO. The peak at 3424 cm 25 The FT-IR spectra of DES confirmed the presence of PO, P−O, P−OH, and P−O (rocking) which appeared at 1159, 1046, 942, and 501 cm −1 , respectively. 14,15 After flame test of GO, DESGO, DES coated cloths and blank cloth, char residue of each was obtained and their FT-IR spectra were recorded (Figure S8).…”

“…ChPS was prepared according to the reported procedure. 23,24 Products were characterised by comparison with authentic samples and by spectroscopic data (IR and 1 H NMR spectra) and melting point range. NMR spectra were recorded on Bruker Avance DPX 500 or 300 instruments.…”

“…ChPS can be easily and inexpensively synthesised, starting from choline chloride and potassium peroxydisulfate. [23][24] ChPS is a choline-based oxidising TSIL and choline bisulfate (ChBS) is a Brønsted-Lowry acid, formed in situ from ChPS, which enables the formation of octahydroxanthene and dibenzo [a,j]xanthene. This TSIL possesses a number of useful features: it is non-toxic, biodegradable and recyclable, while ChPS plays a triple role as a solvent, oxidant and catalyst.…”

“…Furthermore, there is growing interest in Betti bases as chiral inductors or chiral precursors for asymmetric synthesis of a-aminophosphonic acids [15]. Owing to the wide variety of applications of Betti bases in chiral drug synthesis, various modifications have been made to prepare Betti base derivatives under operationally straightforward and green conditions [16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24]. Furthermore, several asymmetric procedures for these multicomponent reactions have also been successfully developed [25][26][27][28].…”
