Abstract: The chromatinisation of DNA by nucleoid‐associated proteins (NAPs) in archaea ‘formats’ the genome structure in profound ways, revealing both striking differences and analogies to eukaryotic chromatin. However, the extent to which archaeal NAPs actively regulate gene expression remains poorly understood.
