Chromium, molybdenum and tungsten

Abstract

This chapter reviews the literature reported during 2007 on some important advances in the areas of catalysis, bioinorganic, and organometallic chemistry for the chromium triad. Research highlights for each metal during the year are also given. HighlightsThe main highlights include: (i) the first crystal structure of molybdenum(VI) selenoether and thioether complexes, 35 (ii) 95 Mo and 17 O NMR studies of aqueous molybdate, 39 (iii) the first example of a 2-D layer structure constructed from four vanadium-capped pseudo Keggin tungstates, 41 (iv) Cr(B 3 H 8 ) 2 as the first homoleptic transition metal complex of the octahydrotriborate anion, 54 (v) the largest reported polyoxofluoromolybdate cluster, [Mo 16 O 53 F 2 ], 12-46 (vi) the synthesis and identification of a nanoscale Fe III -substituted polyoxotungstate [KFe 12 (OH) 18 (a-1,2,3-P 2 W 15 O 56 ) 4 ], 29-40 (vii) the very first X-ray structural characterisation of [((CH 3 ) 2 Sn) 6 (OH) 2 O 2 (H 2 BW 13 O 46 ) 2 ] 12À , a molecular hybrid of an organic-inorganic tungstoborate and the elusive [H n BW 13 O 46 ] (11Àn)À species.
