Chromone and isocoumarin derivatives from the endophytic fungus Xylomelasma sp. Samif07, and their antibacterial and antioxidant activities

Abstract: Five chromone derivatives, including 2,6-dimethyl-5-methoxyl-7hydroxylchromone (1), 6-hydroxymethyleugenin (2), 6-methoxymethyleugenin (3), chaetoquadrin D (4), and isoeugenitol (5), and three isocoumarin congeners, namely diaporthin (6), 8-hydroxy-6-methoxy-3-methylisocoumarin (7), and 6-methoxymellein (8), were isolated from the culture of the endophytic fungus Xylomelasma sp. Samif07 derived from the medicinal plant Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge.Among them, compound 1 was a new natural product. Their structures… Show more

“…Meanwhile, chlorogenic acid was found to have antibacterial activity against Foodborne Pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella enteritidis (41), and caffeic acid was found to have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus clinical strains (42). In addition, the antibacterial effect of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (Danshen), a major component herb of HQT, has been widely reported and studied (43)(44)(45). Therefore, we speculate that HQT can significantly restore and improve gut microbial species and function in RA patients, possibly due to the fact that HQT contains a variety of compounds with antimicrobial effects.…”

“…Compounds 117 and 29 showed inhibition against only E. carotovora (MIC, 100 µg/mL), and B. subtilis (MIC, 50 µg/mL), respectively. Compounds 118, 119, 29 were found active against S. haemolyticus and E. carotovora (MIC of 75 µg/mL), whereas compound 121 exhibited stronger inhibition against B. subtilis, A. tumefaciens, and X. vesicatoria, with MICs of 25, 75, and 25 µg/mL, respectively [71].…”

“…In addition, they were examined for their antioxidant activity, using hydroxyl radical-scavenging activity test and ascorbic acid as a positive control as well as the Fe 3+ reducing activity method using BHT as a positive control, 121 displayed signicant hydroxyl radical-scavenging and Fe 3+ reducing activity, but 349 showed weak Fe 3+ reducing activity. 164 3.16.4.
