“…We reviewed the literature and found only 5 cases of chromophobe RCC in childhood (Table 1) [2,[10][11][12][13]. In the current case, the patient age and tumor grade were in agreement with those of the previous reports.…”

“…We included 243 cases of pediatric RCC in the analysis of stage‐specific outcomes. Stage I was the most frequent presentation, followed closely by Stage IV and Stage III disease 12–14, 17, 18, 21–56. The stage‐specific overall survival rates were > 90%, > 80%, > 70%, and < 15% for Stages I–IV, respectively (Table 3).…”

“…Only 1 other CRCC was identified in a child upon review of the National Wilms Tumor Study after their pathologists reviewed the case presented here (E. Perlman, personal communication). Seven other CRCCs have been reported in prior retrospective series of RCCs in children or case reports published between 1998 and 2005 (Table 1) [2][3][4][5][6][7]. No more than 2 CRCCs were reported in any of the series, although Bruder and others identified 2 patients with RCC, one with tuberous sclerosis that had chromophobe-like features with unconvincing Hale's colloidal iron stains [6].…”

“…In this report, we present a chromophobe RCC (CRCC), a form of RCC heretofore rarely described in children in the literature. Prior to this case, 7 cases of CRCC have been described in 2 case reports and 4 series of RCCs in children [2][3][4][5][6][7]. Although these tumors can be confused with other eosinophilic renal epithelial neoplasms, they feature a characteristic histomorphology, both by light microscopy and electron microscopy; cytoplasmic staining with Hale's colloidal iron; and an absence of the 3p deletion that is seen in many nonpapillary RCCs.…”
