Chromophore-Based Luminescent Metal–Organic Frameworks as Lighting Phosphors

Abstract: Energy-efficient solid-state-lighting (SSL) technologies are rapidly developing, but the lack of stable, high-performance rare-earth free phosphors may impede the growth of the SSL market. One possible alternative is organic phosphor materials, but these can suffer from lower quantum yields and thermal instability compared to rare-earth phosphors. However, if luminescent organic chromophores can be built into a rigid metal-organic framework, their quantum yields and thermal stability can be greatly improved. T… Show more

“…Solid-state light emitting materials, especially white light emitting materials, are of particular interest in recent years due to their potential applications in display and lighting. [138][139][140] Li and coworkers designed a ligand H 4 tcbpe 4′,4′′′,4′′′′′,4′′′′′′-(ethene-1,1,2,2-tetrayl)tetrakis ([1,10-biphenyl]-4-carboxylic acid), emitting near 540 nm and coordinated with Zn ion to form LMOFs with high internal and external quantum yields (Figure 13a). [141] The obtained crystals show high surface area and emit near-yellow fluorescence.…”

“…Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), which are porous materials comprising metal ions and ligands, have attracted much attention for applications such as sensors, crystal sponges, luminescent materials, and soft crystals, and have been also used as cathode active materials in rechargeable batteries . The porous frameworks of MOFs allow one to realize stable battery performances, whereas the dual redox reactions of metal ions and ligands improve the capacity .…”

“…To achieve the required D–A spectral overlap and study ET processes, we utilized the advantages offered by well‐defined hybrids including modularity and tunability . Based on time‐resolved PL data and theoretical studies of D–A exciton coupling, the ET efficiency and rate, key factors for application development in the field of optoelectronics, were estimated. Thus, the presented studies provide an opportunity to shed light on ET processes in corannulene‐based material for the first time.…”
