Abstract: Chronic pancreatitis correlates with 1.35-fold increased risk of herpes zoster. From a view of primary prevention, we suggest that patients with chronic pancreatitis should receive herpes zoster vaccination.

“…1 The cause of herpes zoster results from a reactivation of latent varicella-zoster virus dormant in dorsal root ganglia. 2 This type of reactivation usually results from declined host immunity associated with a wide variety of conditions, including various autoimmune diseases, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic pancreatitis (CP), diabetes mellitus (DM) and advancing age, 3,4 but the association of cirrhosis has not yet been clarified.…”

“…Herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia create a significant health concern because of the declined life quality of an affected person and the economic burden on healthcare systems 4 . A number of well‐established risk factors and comorbidities are found to be associated with impaired cell‐mediated immunity, including older age, malignancy, immunosuppressive status, diabetes mellitus, inflammatory bowel disease, and chronic pancreatitis 5–7 . These factors and comorbidities predispose some individuals at greater risk of developing herpes zoster.…”

[5][6][7] These factors and comorbidities predispose some individuals at greater risk of developing herpes zoster. In addition, meteorological conditions, such as seasonal variation and ambient temperature variation, were found to be associated with the reactivation of the latent varicella-zoster virus and also predispose the host at greater risk of developing herpes zoster.…”
