“…The result of this study showed that gasoline caused dose dependent decrease in haemoglobin concentrations in albino rats while feeding with vitamin E caused increase haemoglobin concentration. This is similar to report of chronic study by Dede et al [10] using Bonny light crude oil, kerosene and gasoline which showed reduction in haemoglobin (Hb) and PCV levels in albino rats suggesting that long term exposure to petroleum samples could induce anemia. Wachukwu et al [3], Dede et al [4], Ayalogu et al [11] and Uboh et al [12,13] also reported similar observations using gasoline.…”

“…This could be as a result of osmoregulatory system disturbance of the blood cells or impairment of the cell membrane. The observed reduction in hematological indices could indicate erythrocyte destruction [41]. Therefore, the reduction observed in RBC count and HCT may be linked to delayed hemopoeisis, shrinkage, and destruction of RBC.…”

“…According to Dede et al (2002), cases of misuse of this substance by individuals have been reported, as it is known to be used liberally by some of the indigenes who believe that it can repel witches when applied either topicaly, or by oral administration on afflicted individuals, *Corresponding author.
