Chronic Venous Disease in Spain: Doctor–Patient Correlation

Abstract: While there is correlation between VCSS, CEAP, modified CIVIQ and venous ultrasound findings, subgroup analysis indicates that this correlation is driven by different components of VCSS compared with the other venous assessment tools. Patients' opinions about their disease are correlated with those assessed by primary care physicians.

“…Older age, poor scores on the four CIVIQ domains, and perceived poor QoL are all closely associated. This agrees with the findings by Lozano 9 and Carradice, 6 that higher age is strongly associated with poor QoL. However, the results for patients over 65 are similar to those who are 44, which can be seen in all CIVIQ dimensions.…”

“…Although it has been established that clinically assessed CEAP class was significantly associated with QoL, 5,6,8,9 the results of this study indicate that this relationship is not linear as proposed and that three patient groups can be identified when the QoL scores are considered. The first group is formed by C0e1 patients who have good QoL although the pain domain has relatively high values (40.8).…”

“…Our result were not concordant with those found in corresponding literature. (2,7,8) We have found an increasing trend of CVI and a decreasing trend of aCVI. Moreover the percentage of patients with aCVI from CVI presented a significant decrease over time, with an R2 =0.9493.…”

“…Several studies have been performed in the last ten years, assessing the etiology and epidemics of chronic venous disease and its advanced form, including venous ulcer. Patients form Italy, Spain, Poland and even Romania were evaluated over this time period [6][7][8][9]. Despite all of the resulting comprehensive information, chronic venous insufficiency and its most advanced form (venous ulcer) often remains undiagnosed, being overlooked and underestimated by both patients and physicians [4,5].…”

“…Painful skin changes with their associated restrictions and social isolation result in a heavy psychosocial burden: psychosocial parameters include social isolation, depression, feelings of regret, loss of power and helplessness . Only few evidences examined the relationship between CEAP and QoL including some with apparently contradictory results, showing no differences in the QoL of patients with advanced stages of CVD .…”
