Abstract:In this study, we reconstruct the style and timing of the late Quaternary glaciation pattern in a monsoon‐influenced precipitation‐deprived region (Dhauliganga basin) of the Central Himalaya, India. We present detailed glacial geomorphological mapping, aided by topographic maps, satellite data, Google Earth images, global positioning system survey, and fieldwork (2012–2016), supported by optically stimulated luminescence dating. Our estimations for the magnitude and timing of glaciations in the Dunagiri Glacie… Show more

“…Figures 11 and 12 of Kumar et al . (2020) synthesize the available chronologies from the Himalayan glaciated valleys and surrounding precipitation‐deprived areas suggesting that the magnitude of glaciations was asynchronous, while the timing of moraines deposition was synchronous. Almost all the relevant studies have been referenced; missing one wouldn't alter the findings; therefore, we disagree with Ali & Sharma's (2020) also in this regard.…”

“…Ali & Sharma (2020) made several comments on Kumar et al . (2020) based on climate, moraine stratigraphy, and regional climatic correlations, including our lack of full consideration of Sati et al . (2014) study.…”

“…Given the above, we analysed the real‐time ( in‐situ ) meteorological and mass balance data/estimates (table 3 in Kumar et al . 2020) to understand the factors that affected the glaciers fluctuations in the Dunagiri valley (most likely precipitation) and explained the response of the valley to past glaciations. Based on Kumar et al .…”
