Chrysin reduces inflammation and oxidative stress and improves ovarian function in D-gal-induced premature ovarian failure

Abstract: Premature ovarian failure (POF), a frequently occurring pathology. Chrysin has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic and other pharmacological activities. This study was designed to detect the effect of Chrysin on POF. The establishment of POF was depended on the subcutaneous injection of D-gal (200 mg/kg/d). With the adoption of ELISA, the levels of hormones and release of inflammatory cytokines were assayed. The expression of MDA, GSH-px, SOD and ROS was evaluated with corresponding kits. In additio… Show more

“…These natural products encompassed substances derived from plants to marine organisms. Among the phytochemicals, bioactive substances from plants were extensively investigated [ 27 , 30 , 32 – 37 , 39 43 , 46 , 47 , 49 52 , 63 ]. In addition, marine natural products such as tilapia skin peptides [ 38 ], oyster polypeptides [ 44 ], sea cucumber peptide [ 31 ], and coenzyme Q10 [ 45 ] were also explored.…”

“…Increasing evidence suggests that abnormal inflammatory states and oxidative stress in GCs are important causes of the decline in ovarian reserve 9 , 44 , 45 and many antioxidant drugs have been explored for their potential to protect against POF 13 , 46 . MET, as a multifunctional drug that has been extensively studied in recent years, has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-aging effects in various disease models 47 , 48 .…”

“…Additionally, increased expression of SASP markers in the ovaries led to premature ovarian failure, suggesting that SASP may contribute to ovarian ageing [ 45 ]. Moreover, inhibiting GC proliferation may interfere with proper follicular development and resulted in a decline in ovarian function [ 46 ].…”
