“…Proper LCA needs to be measured by experienced and skilled staff. A similar study conducted by Malik et al (2022) highlighted a crucial requirement to make available tax benefits for CE adoption. “…We lack an understanding of the adoption of I4.0-based technologies related to the CE in real-life settings of SMEs (Centobelli et al, 2020). In particular, minimal research investigated how Industry 4.0 can support the implementation of CE in SMEs in emerging markets, a literature gap indicated by Malik et al (2022). Our findings fill out this gap by indicating that Industry 4.0 could facilitate SMEs in CE markets to gain and maintain organizational legitimacy via two mechanisms: conforming and transcending, and ultimately capturing value from CE adoption.…”

Although these studies provide evidence on the enabling role of Industry 4.0 in achieving CE objectives, there is a paucity of empirical research crystalizing how Industry 4.0 could facilitate SMEs in emerging markets to profit from CE adoption in practice (Malik et al, 2022), especially from a legitimacy perspective.…”

“…They argue that the development of industrial symbiosis networks is path-dependent and contingent on a broad range of contextual conditions. More recently, Zhu et al (2022) and Malik et al (2022) developed conceptual frameworks outlining the various micro-, meso-, and macro-factors influencing the adoption of CE in emerging market SMEs. Urbinati et al (2021) developed a framework of micro-, meso-, and macro-level enablers and barriers and assessed the importance of each in a survey of the Italian automotive industry.…”
