Circular RNAs in ferroptosis: regulation mechanism and potential clinical application in disease

Abstract: Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent non-apoptotic form of cell death, is reportedly involved in the pathogenesis of various diseases, particularly tumors, organ injury, and degenerative pathologies. Several signaling molecules and pathways have been found to be involved in the regulation of ferroptosis, including polyunsaturated fatty acid peroxidation, glutathione/glutathione peroxidase 4, the cysteine/glutamate antiporter system Xc-, ferroptosis suppressor protein 1/ubiquinone, and iron metabolism. An increasing … Show more

“…One study shows that Acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 (ACSL4) exacerbates IS by promoting ferroptosis-induced brain injury and neuroinflammation 22 . Moreover, Circ-Carm1 can promote iron subsidence in acute cerebral infarction through the hsa-miR-3098-3p/ACSL4 axis 23 , 24 . Knockdown of Activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3) suppresses the progression of IS through inhibiting ferroptosis 25 .…”
