Circular RNAs in the tumour microenvironment

Abstract: Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a new class of endogenous non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) widely expressed in eukaryotic cells. Mounting evidence has highlighted circRNAs as critical regulators of various tumours. More importantly, circRNAs have been revealed to recruit and reprogram key components involved in the tumour microenvironment (TME), and mediate various signaling pathways, thus affecting tumourigenesis, angiogenesis, immune response, and metastatic progression.Main body of the abstract: In this re… Show more

“…During invasion and intravasation, tumor cells should avoid immune recognition in order to survive before extravasating. Some reviews have elaborately summarized the association among circRNAs TME immune cells and the immune escape [8,9]. Herein, we focus on the crosstalk between circRNAs and immune cell function in relation to invasion.…”

“…Cumulative evidence has shown that circRNAs are closely associated with cancer metastasis [ 5 7 ]. The interaction between circRNAs and the TME has significant clinical relevance to cancer therapy [ 8 , 9 ]. Therefore, in the current review, we focus on the crosstalk between circRNAs and the TME in cancer metastasis.…”

“…Recent studies have shown that TME played a vital role during OC progression [31][32][33]. Moreover, TME-related molecular markers can be used as predictors to precisely assess patients' immunotherapy response, thereby enhancing their clinical outcome [34][35][36]. However, immune infiltration and its molecular mechanisms have not been thoroughly explained in OC.…”

“…Up to now, several important pathways regulated by circRNAs have been reported in cancer progression, such as Wnt signaling pathway [27], MAPK signaling pathway [28], p-CDK2 pathway and NF-kappa B signaling pathway [29]. However, it is still unexplored how circular RNAs regulate steatotic IRI, and it is plausible that some specific signaling pathways dominate this process, which needs further investigation.…”
