Circulating MicroRNA-92b-3p as a Novel Biomarker for Monitoring of Synovial Sarcoma

Abstract: The lack of useful biomarkers is a crucial problem for patients with soft tissue sarcomas (STSs). Emerging evidence has suggested that circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) in body fluids have novel impact as biomarkers for patients with malignant diseases, but their significance in synovial sarcoma (SS) patients remains unknown. Initial global miRNA screening using SS patient serum and SS cell culture media identified a signature of four upregulated miRNAs. Among these candidates, miR-92b-3p secretion from SS cells … Show more

“…7 Although considerable previous research on determining the usefulness of miRNA as biomarkers has focused on analysis of tissue specimens, other researchers have focused on circulating miRNA as a potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker. [8][9][10] Recently, miR-1246 and miR-1290 were identified as tumor-initiating, cell-specific miRNAs in non-small cell lung cancer. 11,12 Moreover, serum miR-1246 and miR-1290 levels were correlated with the clinical response of patients with lung cancer who were receiving chemotherapies.…”

“…Members of the miR-200 family and miR-9/miR-9* are associated with SS and myxoid liposarcomas, respectively. Microarray profiling analysis performed on nine pairs of serum samples obtained from SS patients and healthy individuals identified 49 serum miRNAs that were significantly upregulated in SS patients compared with controls, reaffirming the potential clinical significance of serum miR-92b-3p for identifying SS tumors [42].…”

“…There are three predicted sites in the Dkk3 3′UTR (Fig. 8I); two studies report Dkk3 is a direct target of miR-25 for other cell types (Huo et al, 2016;Yoshida et al, 2018) and two studies reporting that the miR-92 targets Dkk3 in neural tissue (De Brouwer et al, 2012;Haug et al, 2011). miR-92 has the same seed sequence as miR-25 ( Fig.…”
