Circulation and Settlement Patterns of the Calumet Region of Northwest Indiana and Northeast Illinois (The Second Stage of Occupance–pioneer Settler and Subsistence Economy, 1830–1850)

Abstract: HIS paper is a sequel to the one initially presented on the first stage of occupance of the Calumet region, that of the Pottawatoinie and Fur Trader, T -1830.1 Its purpose is to show how the pioneer settler and his subsistence economy of the period of 1830-50 originally supplemented and then gradually supplanted the occupance forms of the Indian and the French fur trader.
