“…Neurolept anaesthesia (NLA), defined as the combined use of droperidol, fentanyl and nitrous oxide (HOLDERNESS et al 1963et al , MORGAN et al 1974, has become a valuable alternative to other forms of general anaesthesia in the anaesthetic management of major surgery in the poor-risk patient (CORSSEN , Fox et al 1967, DOBKIN et al 1970, JACOBSON et al 1970, MORGAN et al 1974. The main reason for this is the stability of cardiovascular function during NLA, which has been demonstrated in several studies in man (DOBKIN , ZAUDER et al 1965, DOBKIN et al 1970, TARHAN et al 1971, STOELTINC et al 1975.
