Citroniella saccharovorans gen. nov. sp. nov., a member of the family Peptoniphilaceae isolated from a human fecal sample from a coastal traditional community member

Abstract: A novel Gram-stain-positive, non-motile, non-spore-forming coccus-shaped obligately anaerobic bacterium was recovered from a fecal sample obtained from an individual from a traditional community located on the southern coast of Peru. The results of analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing indicated the novel bacterium to be phylogenetically distinct from other genera of members of the Peptoniphilaceae family, sharing a loose affinity with the genera Ezakiella, Finegoldia, Gallicola and Parvimonas. The major … Show more

“…Minerals solution (A) contained (per 1000 ml); K 2 HPO 4 (3.0 g). Minerals solution (B) contained (per 1000 ml); KH 2 PO 4 (3.0 g), (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 (6.0 g), NaCl (6.0 g), MgSO 4 ×7H 2 O (0.6 g) and CaCl 2 (0.6 g) as described previously [11]. The enrichment was incubated at 37 °C for 14 days with a headspace of 5 % hydrogen, 10 % carbon dioxide and 85 % nitrogen to maintain anoxic conditions.…”

“…Citroniella saccharovorans (DSM 29873) was isolated from a fecal sample from a traditional native on the southern coast of Peru ( 1 ). C. saccharovorans grows under strict anaerobic conditions at optimum 30°C and pH 6.5–7.3, utilizing different sugars, organic acids, and amino acids for growth, with production of acetate and methyl succinate ( 1 ).…”

This complete genome will provide possibilities to recover information on genes and potential metabolic pathways used by this species, representing the only isolate of the genus Citroniella .…”

“…Incertae sedis in Bergey's Manual until the family Peptoniphilaceae was described in 2014 to include the genera Anaerococcus, Anaerosphaera, Finegoldia, Gallicola, Helcococcus, Murdochiella, Parvimonas and Peptoniphilus [1]. Since then, two additional novel validly published genera were assigned to this family (Citroniella and Ezakiella) [2,3]. Most isolates of Parvimonas (P.) micra exhibit strong proteolytic activity with possible significance in the development of mixed extraoral anaerobic abscesses [4,5].…”
