This article examines young people's civic participation and the extent to which this is influenced by the family. Although literature on young people's civic participation is abundant, the role of the family in influencing this participation is largely absent. Drawing on survey data collected from 976 young people aged 13-14 in South Wales, we outline the extent and nature of civic participation and how this varies according to relationships with parents and grandparents. Our data show that relationships with mothers and grandparents are particularly important in young people's accounts of their participation, suggesting that family is far more important in developing a propensity for engagement in civil society than is commonly understood.

Background: Although private community pharmacies are identified as health care facilities, they are highly affected by business management issues and different stakeholders. This study aims to identify, classify and analyze private community pharmacy stakeholders.Methods: A focus group was conducted with key informants to analyze and classify stakeholders using three-dimensional matrix. Identified stakeholders were analyzed regarding three attributes of power, legitimacy and urgency. The results of the focus group were converted to a structured questionnaire and confirmed in several face-to-face interviews until the saturation level.Results: four main levels of relationship and eight category of stakeholders differentiated through an analysis. The core stakeholders group possesses all the attributes and include pharmacy licensee, licensee-owner, responsible pharmacist, customer, prescriber, health insurance, regulatory body, and staff.Conclusion: The core stakeholders are directly involved in decision making. Further deliberations are necessary to analyze the behavior of stakeholders and investigate the communication model.

While the development of civil society organisations in Hungary has been impressive in terms of number and diversity, its influence has remained limited on policy-making. Administrative attempts to draw civil society under tight regulation and control have produced a blurring of the boundaries between the civil and the public spheres that, in turn, has impaired the independent voice and criticism of civil society. Therefore, economic acts based on solidarity and originating from civil society do not automatically form or increase a ‘social economy’ but become as contested by and as intermingled with political developments as other acts of civil society. This development also has affected the profile of civil activities: against the earlier impressive weight of anti-poverty, anti-racist and human rights engagements, the ‘non-risky’ activities of sports and leisure services have come to domination. A turn toward declining participation is a warning sign of the decreasing contribution of civil society to everyday democracy.
