Clad-Reinforcing Effect of Sifcon on Blast Resistance of Reinforced Concrete Slabs

Abstract: The objective of this study is to develop an efficient blast-resistant strengthening method of reinforced concrete (RC) slabs using slurry infiltrated fiber concrete (SIFCON). Contact detonation tests were carried out on RC slabs in which the concrete near the rear was replaced with SIFCON. As a result, the SIFCON cladding effectively reduced spalling damage of RC slabs, and the spall-reducing effect was raised by reducing the thickness of the SIFCON layer. Further, the spall-reducing mechanism of the RC slabs… Show more

Furthermore, the authors developed mortar-preparation grout that can fill the narrow gaps of the fibers in SIFCON to reduce the matrix contraction as well as the environmental burden associated with SIFCON production.…”

“…Mortar infiltrated fiber concrete has a very good potential for use in areas where resistance to impact and high ductility are needed especially in designing the seismic retrofit, in the structures under impact and explosive effects and repair of the structural reinforced concrete element [4]. mortar infiltrated fiber concrete exhibits better spallreducing performance than normal concrete and other fiber-reinforced [5].…”
