Clarificaciones nomenclaturales y circunscripción taxonómica de Schinus areira (Anacardiaceae) en Argentina

Abstract: Nomenclatural clarifications and taxonomic circumscription of Schinus areira (Anacardiaceae) in Argentina. Schinus areira, an originally South American species, is naturalized in the northwest and west of Argentina, and has a great morphological affinity with S. molle, with which it shares part of its distribution range. Throughout their taxonomic history, both species have been treated as independent species, as a single species with two varieties or synonymized under the same taxon. The objective of this wor… Show more

“…The specie was identified as Schinus molle L. Anacardiaceae, according to Muñoz et al (1993), they described the leaf and drupe morphological characters as "spheroid drupes, reddish at the beginning and finally brown upon completion of maturity". For their part, Zapater et al (2018), delimits and redefines the morphological characters that allow differentiation of the species, adding the character of isomorphic leaves for Muñoz (2000), also confirms that acuminate serrated leaflets are observed, and also describes drupes that turn brown at maturity.…”

“…Additionally, after the Peruvian pepper tree ( Schinus areira L.), V. caven is the second most widespread tree species in extra-tropical South America [ 10 ]. This connection is interesting, as also for this Peruvian pepper tree, Inca transportation has been proposed as a cause for its current distribution [ 121 ].…”

“…En la actualidad son entidades independientes con rango específico. En un estudio reciente ambas especies se diferenciaron por el número total de folíolos y su disposición, además del tipo de márgen de los folíolos que varía en S. areira según la posición de las hojas en las ramas péndulas (Zapater et al, 2018).…”
