Clarification of the Training Requirements for Working on Electric Vehicles

Abstract: The dwindling energy resources and the compliance of international climate protection goals lead to a rethink in the automobile sector. One result of this rethink is the increasing distribution of electric vehicles in the last years. This development includes a new challenge for the training sector. For example, the implementation of a high-voltage system into automobiles involves a new hazard potential for people, who work on electric vehicles. Therefore, the employees in the areas of vehicle repair trade, re… Show more

“…To meet this need, this study presents a student-centered model with a modular approach in which different technologies and occupational safety concepts are integrated. In another study, Fechtner H. et al [5] investigated the training needs of employees in areas such as technicians and firefighters on electric vehicles, including occupational safety risks. An approach to the development of a unique training program for working on electric vehicles is also presented in this paper.…”

“…Nevertheless, it is unlikely that they will benefit from the newer cheaper battery packs and chemistry that have been announced, if research to market lead time of 1-5 years in the automotive industry is to be expected (Gerken, Moehrle, & Walter, 2015). Also, it remains a challenge to ensure that existing repair and maintenance networks are ready for the transition within the coming decade (IMI, 2020), specifically in ensuring training and upskilling for working with high voltage components in the vehicle (Fechtner, Saes, Fechtner, Braun, & Schmülling, 2016).…”
