Class‐3c compression bandaging for venous ulcers: comparison of spiral and figure‐of‐eight techniques

Abstract: The spiral technique was a safe and comfortable method of bandage application. The figure-of-eight also provided graduated compression but with some high areas of pressure, notably overlying the Achilles tendon. However, before firm practice recommendations are made, replication of the study using a padding layer and a larger sample is needed.

“…The lack of knowledge about certain aspects of compression therapy and performing compression bandaging has been shown in other international studies, independent of the participants' professions (22,23). It is also reflected in the low number of patients with VLU who received compression therapy (40 %) in Germany (10).…”

“…Indeed, the leg morphology varies from a subject to another and maybe even more especially from a female subject to a male subject. 12 Other groups investigated the impact of the application technique on the interface pressure 6 and they also measured the stretch of the applied bandage. However, as the aim of this previous study was to compare the pressure applied by different application techniques, it was carried out for a single bandage type.…”

“…To reduce the pressure variations in a given area under the bandage, padding can be used under compression materials [12]. Many types of textiles are composed of woven yarn, each thread composed of a plurality of fibers or yarns twisted together.…”
