Purpose The purpose of the study was to evaluate the role of subfoveal choroidal thickness (CT) measurements as a predictor for the course of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). Patients and methods Thirty-eight eyes of 33 patients with CSC were analyzed retrospectively. Key inclusion criteria were naive (acute or recurrent) CSC; a minimum of 12 months of follow up; and the availability of good quality enhanced depth imaging SD-OCT images at each visit. Eyes with changes suggestive of chronic CSC and history of any treatment were excluded. Collected data included demographic profile, visual acuity, subfoveal CT, central macular thickness (CMT), and treatment details. Univariate and multivariate analyses for association of baseline features with need for treatment were performed. On the basis of results of this analysis, the 38 eyes were divided into two groups: Group A (subfoveal CT ≤ 356 μm) and Group B (subfoveal CT4356 μm). Results On univariate analysis, the need for treatment had significantly positive correlation with duration of symptoms (P = 0.02), negative correlation with the baseline CT (Po0.01), and no significant correlation with CMT (P = 0.13). On multivariate regression analysis, only baseline CT had a statistically significant association with the need for treatment (odds ratio (OR), 0.989; CI, 0.979-0.999; P = 0.048). Group A eyes were more likely to require treatment (Group A: 54.55%, 12 of 22 eyes; Group B: 18.75%, 3 of 16 eyes; OR: 5.2, 95% CI, 1.15-23.54; P = 0.04). There was a significant decrease in subfoveal CT in Group B (−105.62 ± 108.91 μm; P = 0.002). Conclusion CSC with a subfoveal CT ≤ 356 μm is of chronic nature and is more likely to require treatment rather than observation.

Purpose: To assess the tomographic features of myopic choroidal neovascularization by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography. Methods: We consecutively reviewed the charts of patients with pathologic myopia, recent visual acuity deterioration and active macular neovascularization. Specific tomographic changes were studied in 25 eyes by two authors independently. Results: The mean age of patients eligible for the study was 63.4 (±18.2) years. Main tomographic outcomes were the hyperreflectivity of the lesion in 88% of cases (95% CI 0.74-1.02), absence of the external limiting membrane in 88% (95% CI 0.84-1.02), and retinal thickening in 83% (95% CI 0.67-0.99). The internal plexiform layer remained discernible in 83% (95% CI 0.67-0.99) of cases, the inner nuclear layer in 62% (95% CI 0.37-0.80), the external plexiform layer in 48% (95% CI 0.27-0.69). Retinal edema was noted in 48% (95% CI 0.26-0.70) of patients. Conclusions: Myopic choroidal neovascularization appears predominantly hyperreflective, causes thickening of the corresponding retina and mainly involves the external retinal segments. Retinal fluid is infrequent.

Purpose To compare multimodal imaging in detecting lacquer cracks in highly myopic eyes, and to correlate these findings with those of spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). Methods An observational case series study. Patients with a refractive error worse than À 8 diopters and lacquer cracks were recruited. The rates of detection of the lacquer cracks using multimodal imaging including near-infrared reflectance (NIR) imaging, fundus autofluorescence (FAF) imaging, and fluorescence angiography (FA) were compared. The characteristic findings of multimodal imaging were correlated with those of SD-OCT. Results NIR imaging was more sensitive (92.9%) in detecting lacquer cracks than either FAF (12.5%) or FA (67.9%). Lacquer cracks showed hyperreflectance on NIR, and they were consistently associated with a continuous retinal pigment epitheliumBruch's membrane complex, thinner choroid, and acoustic shadows on SD-OCT. Conclusions NIR imaging is superior to blue laser light (FAF and FA) imaging in detecting lacquer cracks. SD-OCT in combination with NIR located primary pathological lacquer cracks in the intact retinal pigment epithelium-Bruch's membrane complex as well as thinner choroid. These findings indicate that multimodal cSLO and SD-OCT imaging allow for detecting of lacquer cracks in highly myopic eyes.
