Clathrate Hydrates

Abstract: Clathrate hydrates are crystalline inclusion compounds consisting of a network of polyhedral water cages (host), which enclathrate small hydrophobic molecules. An overview is given for the structural properties of the most common clathrate hydrate structures (sI, sII, and sH). Hydrate structure, occupancy, and dissociation pressures of a range of hydrate formers (guests) around 277 K are presented from calculations using a Gibbs energy minimization program (CSMGem) and/or experiment.
