Clay Mineralogy of Certain Rice Soils in Southern Taiwan

Abstract: Clay minerals present in fine‐textured rice soils in southern Taiwan were identified by X‐ray diffraction and chemical analyses. Dioctahedral mica with high potassium content is the predominant mineral in the clay fraction. These soil clays also contain considerable amounts of iron‐rich chlorite, smectite, and vermiculite.
