“Cleaved Tau Protein”: A Novel Biomarker Candidate in Mild Neurotrauma in Emergency Settings

Abstract: Background Neurotrauma has been labeled as a “silent epidemic” affecting both the developed and the developing nations. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) in humans leads to the proteolytic cleavage of tau protein called cleaved tau (C-tau) protein. The objectives of the study are to the role of serum cleaved tau (C-tau/τC) protein as a biomarker in patients with mild TBI and correlate it with the clinical progression (GCS) and clinical outcome (GOS) in emergency settings. Materials and Methods The study… Show more

“…To this end, two different grouping schemes (Tully based on the literature and Tempel based on a systematic algorithm) are selected as well as 5 reasonable locally derived H 0 values (from 72 to 76 km s −1 Mpc −1 , for the most recent values see e.g. Singh et al 2016;Riess et al 2016;Tully et al 2016;Beaton et al 2016). 10 grouped versions of the second radial peculiar velocity catalog of Cosmicflows are produced accordingly: 5 per grouping scheme with each one of the H 0 values.…”

“…The datasets they explored for this purpose include measurements of H 0 [3], Lithium-7 measurements [4] (see also [5]), distance to LMC [6], distance to galactic center [7]. Evidence for non-Gaussian errors has also been found in HST Key project data [8]. For each of these datasets, they have fitted the data to a variety of probability distributions.…”

“…The first step in this analysis is to check for non-Gaussianity of the residuals. The importance of checking for non-Gaussianity of the measurement errors for a large suite of astrophysical measurements has been stressed in a number of works in astrophysics [3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. Most recently, its importance in other fields such as nuclear and particle physics, medicine and toxicology has also been elucidated by Bailey [14].…”
