Cleft-Rhinoplasty constricted nasal floor reconstruction

Abstract: Introduction:Widening of alar base width is often required in the postcleft lip/palate rehabilitation. This manuscript aims to present the author's design for such a procedure describing the qualitative outcome of such a correction.Materials and Methods:This is a retrospective study from the author's center. All cleft cases requiring alar base widening using author's approach were analysed, and the outcome presented at the baseline, end of 3rd and 6th month. Author used a typical superomedially placed nasolabi… Show more

“…The current technique is often reserved for a patient who shows a nasal and upper labial deformity in spite of early intervention. [ 1 ] The results of the simultaneous correction show the effectiveness of this technique. However, in well-executed cases of early cleft lip repairs, this approach may not be required.…”

“…In most instances of the complete unilateral CLP cases, the deformity is often tilted to the involved side while in the complete bilateral CLP (BCLP) cases the entire columella is deformed. [ 1 ] In complete CLP rehabilitation, such a deformed, “crooked nose” poses a significant challenge. [ 2 ] In cases of deficiency, the columellar lengthening procedure (CoLP) is the most viable treatment procedure.…”

“…In 2012, a triple flap was used by Bozkurt, 14 including a superior NLF, mucosal rotation flap from the inner side of the vestibule for repair of the medial defect, and boomerang‐shaped transposition flap based on the superior side of the extended lower lip. In the case of severe mass deficiency of restricted alar base in post‐cleft lip/palate rehabilitation, Balaji 15 uses a superomedially placed nasolabial full‐thickness flap to correct the alar base width and recreate the nasal lining simultaneously. However, it only works to lateralize the alar base instead of medializing it, and thus cannot narrow the alar base width.…”

“…Therefore, some surgeons utilize composite tissue flap transplantation during the surgical procedure to revise narrow nostril deformities. To widen the alar base width during post-CLP rehabilitation, Balaji used a typical nasolabial flap to correct the narrow alar base deformity and achieve outstanding esthetic and functional outcomes ( 21 ). To restore the symmetry of bilateral nostrils, Suh et.…”
