Climatic Factors and Epidemiologic Characteristics of Head and Neck Skin Malignancies in Osijek Baranja County, Croatia

Abstract: It is obvious that malignant neoplasms of the skin, head and neck occur after decades of exposure, and as a cumulative effect of exposure to risk factors. A direct exposure to sun seems to play an important role, especially with regard to melanoma. Nevertheless, further research is needed.

“…Obesity, poor physical fitness of children and their causal dependency are associated with many preventable diseases and present a serious current and future public health problem (Starc & Strel, 2012). Nowadays physical fitness is considered as a powerful marker of health and quality of life in childhood (Dobosz, Mayorga-Vega, & Viciana, 2015). Children's health and wellbeing is highly correlated with their physical fitness (Golle, Muehlbauer, Wick, & Granacher, 2015).…”

“…Children's health and wellbeing is highly correlated with their physical fitness (Golle, Muehlbauer, Wick, & Granacher, 2015). Unfortunately, the importance of physical fitness tests as significant diagnostic information about the health status of children is commonly ignored (Dobosz et al, 2015). Physical fitness should be considered as a useful health marker already in childhood and adolescence, reinforcing the need to include physical fitness testing in health monitoring systems (Ortega, Ruiz, Castillo, & Sjöström, 2008).…”

“…According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology [47] and American Optometric Association [48], too much exposure to UV light from the sun raises the risks of eye diseases, such as cataract, corneal sunburn and benign growth (pterygium) [49][50][51]. Furthermore, staying for a long time in the sun, especially in the summer, can result in dehydration, heat-stroke, photo-allergic dermatosis [52], sunburn and solar urticaria [53], facial wrinkling [54], actinic keratosis [55], allergic hypersensitivity skin reactions [55] and cancer of the skin (cutaneous malignant melanoma [56][57][58], squamous cell carcinoma [55] and basal cell carcinoma [59]), more likely in fair-skinned individuals.…”
