“…This falls within the range of results obtained in Ghana [17, 28] and elsewhere [7, 21, 28–30] where the number of men was twice as or higher than that of women. The younger Ghanaian subjects (≤40 years), who accounted for 56.9% of our study subjects, were more likely to have EBV positive NPC tumours (OR = 0.58), as compared to patients older than 40 years (>40 years).…”

“…This pattern of age group distribution is typically observed in non-endemic population in contrast to endemic population where there are two age group peaks, usually a minor peak in the young and a more prominent peak in much older age groups, usually in the 6 th decade of life [ 2 , 6 , 15 ]. Typically, NPC presents in the early phase of the disease with nonspecific symptoms leading to delay in patients´ seeking medical attention and where there is visit to the hospital, the symptoms are treated as benign condition as reported from different studies from all parts of the world [ 6 , 8 , 11 - 13 , 20 , 23 , 25 , 27 - 29 ]. The delay in diagnosis therefore makes the attempt at curative therapy very difficult.…”

“…The hidden nature of the nasopharyngeal space poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, thus allowing significant spread of the disease before diagnosis [8]. The inclusion of nasopharyngoscopy in the clinical setting has greatly increased early diagnosis of nasopharyngeal cancer with consequently improved prognosis of the disease [9].…”

“…of 30 patients in north-western Nigeria reported clinical presentations of deafness and otalgia in 36.3% and 30% of patients, respectively.
