Clinical and Pathologic features of North American/Caribbean Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL), the Brooklyn, NY experience

Abstract: Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) is a rare, highly aggressive, T-cell malignancy caused by human T-cell leukemia/lymphoma virus type 1(HTLV-1) infection.1 It is estimated that there are at least 5-10 million HTLV-1 carriers worldwide. Most of the HTLV-1 infection is thought to be acquired from mother-to-child transmission through breastfeeding. Sexual transmission and blood transfusion are other means of infection.
