Clinical Application of Thermography for Energy Balance in Athletes – State of the Art and New Paradigms

Abstract: This article aims to describe the evolution of techniques that have enabled the proper application of the Laws of Thermodynamics for physical activity and athletes. The objective is to propose performance indicators to help add information to the current indices used in medicine and sports, such as the lactate threshold and maximum oxygen consumption. A number of analyses of the results obtained by the group were carried out for this purpose. Moreover, a discussion regarding which techniques would provide a be… Show more

“…The average reduction found was 0.6ºC of muscle temperature, when comparing GI with GII, during the second consultation. It is important to emphasize that in both groups the clinical data were obtained from the validated questionnaire, RDC/TMD (Research diagnostic criteria for temporomandibular disorders), in this study, they corroborate the clinical results favorable to the reduction of pain and contracture in the face of heat reduction therapies place 1,7,8 Since thermotherapy is contraindicated in cases of acute inflammatory and hemorrhagic processes 8,20,21 , and cold contains the evolution of the inflammatory process, a systemic drug with anti-inflammatory properties, of muscular action, and especially in cases of contractures and muscular excessive effort, represents a viable therapeutic possibility in the treatment and prevention of these conditions 13,14,15,16,17,18,19 .…”

“…Literature Review projects. Commonly-seen applications include non-destructive testing [9], laser welding [10], bio-information collection and analysis in physiology [11][12][13], sport science [14,15], medication [16][17][18][19], ecology [20,21], geomorphic changes monitoring in geology [22], heat transfer analysis [23,24], thermal analysis of semiconductor lasers [25], etc. This method utilizes the fact that the energy radiated from a surface is dependent on its temperature.…”
